We’ve had a great few weeks with the horses and it won’t be long now until they’re ready to run, which will hopefully be in the next two – three weeks (fingers crossed).

Last Saturday morning we had a great time at Sam Drinkwater’s yard and it was brilliant to see how well both Gallic Geordie and Pray For A Rainbow are coming along. This continued spell of rain that we’ve had will be right up their street for when they’re ready to run, so, although it’s not the most pleasant, may it continue. (Video below – Gallic Geordie near side, Pray For A Rainbow far side).

Three weeks ago I had the pleasure of riding out at Christian Williams’ and got to see our mare Georgie. Riding out at Christian’s was a real treat and I got to witness first hand how he utilises all the natural surroundings to his yard to get the best results from of his horses. With no artificial gallop facility, the majority of the training horses do at Christian’s is on the beach and sand dunes at Ogmore-by-sea and to get there, you have to cross a stretch of the river. What amazed me was how relaxed the whole atmosphere and horses were that morning, from getting the horses out of the field (nearly all of them are trained from there), to tacking up in the yard without them being tied up and riding out. Not one horse showed any negative signs to what they were asked to do which is quite remarkable.

Nightboattoclyro continues to impress David Dennis and has taken well to jumping. His pedigree has always suggested he’d make a great National Hunt jump horse, as his Dam (and our broodmare) ‘Wychwoods Legend’ won over both hurdles and fences gaining ‘BLACK TYPE’ status. His sire ‘Sulamani’ being the sire to Grand National winner, ‘Rule The World’, the pedigree also includes Wychwoods Legend’s full brother ‘Wychwoods Brook’, who won the Grade 2 Peter Marsh Chase at Haycock for Kevin and Anne. (Video – Nightboattoclyro schooling).

Other great news in the clubs breeding side, we’ve had confirmation that Wychwoods Legend is in foal to Pethers Moon. So in the new year we will have a new superstar born that may one day be a future On The Gallops Club horse.

Hope you all have a great weekend, enjoy the racing and the rugby.

Catch up soon, Rhys.
